Buenavista del norte - Teno - Masca - Los Gigantes
The Teno massif is part of the Teno Rural Park, a protected natural area Special Area for the Protection and Conservation of Birds. The massif is home to a Marine Reserve at Punta de Teno, a place of great ecological and scenic value.
The massif is one of the three rock formations (paleoislands) that gave rise to the island of Tenerife about 7 million years ago. The Guanches settled in this area, leaving numerous archaeological remains such as caves, necropolises, rock engravings.
It is undoubtedly an area of great importance for the local population, as it preserves its traditional architecture and rural atmosphere. The inhabitants of the massif maintain their ancient agricultural and craft traditions, such as terrace cultivation, the making of cheese, wine and honey, and the manufacture of baskets, hats and pottery. As always, our routes start from Puerto de la Cruz. We will take the TF-42 towards our first stop in Punta de Teno, a place of great natural and scenic value. Here you can enjoy a black sand beach, a historic lighthouse, an artisanal fishing area and a marine reserve.
We must take into account that access is regulated, and can be accessed before 9 am or after 8 pm in summer and the rest of the year, we can not access between 10 am and 7 pm.
We will continue our route visiting Buenavista del Norte, a charming village that preserves its traditional architecture and rural atmosphere. Here you can visit the church of Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios and the convent of San Francisco. From here we will head to Masca, one of the most beautiful and isolated villages of Tenerife, with its houses that seem to hang from the rocky walls of the ravine that bears its name. But first, we will make a stop in the hamlet of Teno Alto, where we will have to negotiate a road full of curves and amazing landscapes.

We will finish in Los Gigantes, a tourist town famous for its impressive cliffs that rise above the sea up to 600 meters high. Here you can enjoy a wide range of leisure, gastronomy and water sports. You can also visit the marina, the viewpoint of Archipenque and the beach of La Arena.
Returning to our origin in Puerto de la Cruz, we will take direction Santiago del Teide, and after crossing the Puerto de Erjos, we will turn right onto the TF-373 road towards San José de los Llanos - La Montañeta, where we will pass through the special nature reserve of Chinyero.
The route is about 170 km long and takes approximately 5 and a half hours of non-stop driving.
